Happy New Year members,
As we enter a new year we also enter a new triennium. With it brings an update to the CEU standards. Concerns and suggestions from members came through the provincial representatives on the committee and we worked through them trying to find a balance that would be achievable by all members. I am very pleased with the work that has gone into the revision and I believe that each province was represented fully.
The revised standards ensure that CEUs are being collected from a variety of sources and that members are learning on multiple levels to keep up their skills and stay up to date on new technologies and advancements in our field.
The CEU committee has been working hard to provide more clarity on the standards. We have added in two new sections, the first is formal education in cardiac related courses. This includes taking an individual course from an accredited program such as electrophysiology or ECHO. The second is a teaching category. This teaching does not include hours if you are being paid as an instructor at an educational institution.
Another addition is page two of the CEU Standards. Here you will find the guidelines for collecting CEUs as well as clarification on some sections.
Although the standards were created nationally, it is the responsibility of each provincial CEU Coordinator to ensure that its members are adhering to the CEU Standards.
I am confident that these revised CEU Standards have answered the questions that members had and that moving forward it is more clear what members can use for acquiring CEUs.
